Ambassador Chas Freeman: European and US-Neocon outrage over Trump’s rapprochement with Russia isn’t about the war—it’s about the collapse of their illusions.
We, humans, are natural beings. We live in flocks, like all beings in the animal world. Each flock has a leader. This leader has been chosen by the flock, in a very intelligent way and far more intelligent than the human leader is chosen. Intelligence is something that goes further and deeper than rational intelligence: rational intelligence can be easily manipulated, and can manipulate. Deep or high intelligence knows, senses, makes aware of what is essential for the group to survive,
Europe is a flock. Its leaders have not been chosen as the leading wolf of a flock of wolves would have been chosen. They took their power via manipulation, misleading, not interested in what is essential for the flock to survive, but what boosts their own ego and social position, bank saldos, and own possession.
This means that the EU leaders do not sense the real enemy, that they fool the European people, and themselves.
There are among the European flock, who prove to be real leaders, like Fico.
I trust the law of nature, and that the flock will start sensing and following, uniting, and excluding those who are a threat to the flock's future.
Maybe "herd" is more appropriate. I often use the analogy of a herd of sheep. Like sheep, we don’t really choose our leaders. But good shepherds will lead us to greener pastures so that we can eat, play, and be content with distractions. They keep the wolves at bay, but we must never forget that we sheep are not free. Those who dare to raise their heads, or stray too far will receive a nasty bite from the shepherd’s dogs.
Good shepherds are actually rare. Most are indifferent to the needs of the herd, leaving them to fight amongst themselves for what little can be foraged in overgrazed fields. The good and bad shepherds frequently fleece their herds naked, the bad do unspeakable things to some. But in the end, all these leaders lead us to our slaughter.
Don't confuse Trump with a statesman. He may have brokered a deal with Russia but only for his own purposes, either to repay a debt or to lay the foundation for further business. Speaking about him like he has a normal mind is ludicrous. Love your show!
I think you are right as to turn the massive ship around re Russian relations requires a whole team of military experts and diplomats as well as negotiators that I don’t see on the American side.. while simultaneously antagonising China and itching to start a war with Iran at the behest of the the Zionists.. doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in team Trump’s capabilities to handle complex geopolitical matters/relations. Trump just sees a quagmire in Ukraine that he wants to get out of (yet is happy to step into a new one in Yemen and potentially from there on to Iran) while starting a trade war and further wreaking havoc on his country’s and the world’s economy.. the west does not produce leaders and statesmen and there’s a whole discussion to be had as to why that is the case.. as for the Europeans, its game over for them. They will die on the hill of Ukraine (and sacrifice their countries and populations).
To me, he is trying to keep election promises, is very blunt, not subtle at all and his intentions predictable. It is not ludicrous to analyze his behavior and dismissing him as "abnormal" is too simplistic.
He has been calling on Europe increase defense spending for some time, has made statements indicating he thinks the war with Russia is stupid, that he can quickly arrange a ceasefire, and considers China the US's main enemy.
So far, he has got Mexico and Canada to commit 10,000 soldiers to patrol the border, got the EU to increase defence spending, forced Zelensky to accept the possibility of a ceasefire. A better record than many "statesmen".
Trump is simply the face of the Empire’s new management team. The Empire’s aim remains the same: plunder and control. Perhaps the Trump regime is more practical. It’s not the first time an empire has had to suffer the pains of ridding itself of senile or idiotic emperors. Building walls is not new either, but keeping the barbarians out, well, never completely the Empire requires a bit of fear to keep the populous in line. And those you cannot conquer? Well, perhaps you make trade deals instead and maybe find a common enemy to plunder together.
Whatever you think about Trump & Co., they know how to entertain. They understand the necessity of Bread & Circus. They may not have won over the entire crowd, but they hold power for now. It’s hard to know what those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) might do. TDS has infected many citizens within the Empire and its Vassal provinces, but most concerning is the Senate. You see, the majority of Senators are all suffering from TDS. The first Ides of March have passed, the returning Emperor still stands. but he’s only just begun his term. If the Emperor does not purge the Senate soon, they will strike again and perhaps prevent the Emperor from ensuring his successor Vance will gain the throne.
I'm with Brian Berletic (New Atlas) on this. Trump told the European leaders he wanted them to bear the burden of the war, and they're preparing to do it. Meanwhile he's giving Ukraine weapons and intelligence. There's no real indication he wants the war to end, he just wants Europe to wage it. That's what it looks like to me.
I have to write something that's, perhaps, not directly tied to the writing in this article but is, in my opinion, pertinent.
Many of readers here on Substack, perhaps even the author of this very good article, aren't old enough to remember firsthand that neutrality handsomely paid off for a different country in Europe for 40+years (from 1948 to 1991). I'm talking about former Yugoslavia. Country which, by its political system (socialism) was closer to USSR than the US, but through its pragmatism was easily approachable by Western countries. Even though each side (NATO vs Warsaw Pact) excreted it's influence and pressures, Yugoslavia maintained its neutrality and through it equally leveraged opportunities offered by both sides.
Now, most of you may remember Yugoslavia by atrocious civil war that broke out after dissolution of the country at the beginning of the 1990s. But before that, it was a really not a bad place to live in.
Anyway, with the right leadership Ukraine could have had exactly that - peace above all, economic opportunities (hopefully, they won't repeat mistakes of Yugoslavia) and a society that cares for all its citizens.
Now…? I think that train hasn't departed yet but boarding is almost over.
You are totally right. Yugoslavia or Austria (1955) as models for Ukraine makes so much sense its hard to see how this is not yet clear to the majority of Europe.
Insanity is an incurable disease, the great banking houses of Europe prove that. The reality is that these houses have always got their way in the end, what the end is in these current times is anyone's guess. Destruction of the world could be one of the ends the insane great houses of Europe might be happy with, who knows.
To your last question, Pascal, it seems that Europe is choosing the latter, self-destructive, option. I’m not even sure Trump can follow through with his great reset regarding U.S.-Russian relations as, tbh, most of his cabinet are at best lightweights politically and diplomatically or just idiots at worst..
Deceived. What most people in the West have been. Devious. That’s what most Ukrainian and EU elites are. Debunk. What needs to be done to the narrative.
How large is the actual support for the Russians in the occupied areas of Ukraine?
According to the referendum, it is enormous. Don’t you find it strange when we look back at the scenes that unfolded in Kherson when the city was liberated from Russian occupation?
Ukrainian soldiers liberate the city of Kherson after 7 months of Russian occupation.
Two months earlier, Russia held a referendum in the Kherson region on whether it should become a part of Russia. According to the Russians, 87% voted yes with a 78% turnout.
European institutions are rotten to the bone. All the real power has been given to a non-elected clique of WEF's puppets (I mean European Commission : "Brussels says... Brussels wants... " and it's well-trained guard dog UVdL...)
And who says WEF says deep state - "Europe" remaining attached to the old guard, the same one that drools over Trump...

My comment has been inspired by an in May 2024 published study: Prey can detect predators via electroreception in air: https://www.pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2322674121
The predators of the European peoples are not in Russia, but in Europe, in Brussels.

Damning him with faint praise! Otherwise I agree with you

Oh no, not another self-styled "Trump expert" who knows nothing.

Russia attacked, invaded Ukraine; but according to this guy, Ukraine and the West are “warmongers”.
He is just another paid lapdog of Putin's, of course
